I understand that there are a lot of other things going on at the moment, but I do have to say that after such a freezing cold summer, it makes no sense for the temperature in this city to be over one hundred and ten degrees at the end of September.

Summer is supposed to come before autumn, not the other way around.

Whoever told me that jobs are never difficult to find for our kind was correct.

True, the job I have found may not be the most glamorous, and also true that it has only a little to do with the abilities that make our kind our kind, but I cannot pretend to have many complaints about the job market, though other people seem to have more trouble with it than I do.

My to-do list for this upcoming September:

1. Find a job.
2. Find a job.
3. Find a job.

Checklist for the weekend:

1. Manicure/pedicure appointment.
2. Hair appointment.
3. Needlessly elaborate shopping spree.

Because, if I learned anything over the past week, it is that inhabiting the correct body deserves this sort of care-taking and celebration.

I'm sure this will be drowned in the frenzy of basketball enthusiasm around here lately, but there does happen to be another major sporting event that began today, one of such international importance that it shouldn't pass without one person mentioning it, at the very least: the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

England squares off against the United States in their first match this weekend, but my attention will, predictably, be focused on Uruguay v. France.

A surplus of Godiva chocolate will be available in my room through the end of the evening -- you need only knock on my door, if you are interested in taking any of this fine product off my hands.

A request for some assistance of an informational kind: During my spring break, I was waylaid in the middle of Madison Square Park by someone purporting to be from a modeling agency, who insisted that I take their card and call them back as soon as possible.

I know that there are some people in the hotel who work in (or at least know about) this industry, so if any of you would be willing to provide advice to the effect of what exactly I should do with this, or what exactly it all could mean, I would appreciate it very much.

I feel like the very last person on earth who gets to go on her spring break, but mine begins next week instead of stretching through this one.

Thank goodness this is my last year there.

I don't care for the rest of it, not in the least, but I find myself quite enjoying the figure skating this year.

This is supposed to be sunny California -- but no. Umbrellas at the Golden Globes, a tornado warning in L.A. County.

If it doesn't stop raining around here like they're saying it will, and soon, I don't know what I'm going to do.

Early action decisions begin returning to applicants from universities on December 15 -- and obviously, today is December 13, which means they will be sent out in practically no time at all.

Is anyone else expecting decisions in the mail?

Now that my neighbor has returned from the Warbucks Château, it is time for me to make my exit for a few days and rejoin my family in New York for a few days of my Thanksgiving break.

Enjoy your holiday.

PRIVATE. COMPOSED IN FRENCH. )

Early action applications for universities in the United States are due by November 1, which is little more than two weeks away.

But, in filling these applications out, I do wonder: is there any point in going to all of this trouble if schools find excuses to turn down or retract acceptances from people of our kind?

More than anything else, I suppose this experience makes me wonder how my siblings might react to being powerless, if they had the benefit of being here.

I suppose this news means that the city will be tearing itself apart in sheer ecstasy for God knows how long.
